Psychonauts 2 is much more than a platformer. Every level introduces new mechanics, creative puzzles, hidden collectibles, psychic abilities, and unique enemies that encourage experimentation. Whether you're playing for the story or aiming for 100% completion, these tips will help you enjoy everything Double Fine's masterpiece has to offer.
Experiment With Every Psychic Power
Every psychic ability has uses beyond combat. Telekinesis solves environmental puzzles, Clairvoyance reveals alternate perspectives, Mental Connection creates new paths, while Time Bubble slows moving platforms and dangerous enemies. Don't assume a power only has one purpose.
Swap Powers Frequently
Only four psychic powers can be equipped at once, but changing them takes only a second through the Power Wheel. Get used to swapping abilities depending on the puzzle or enemy instead of sticking with the same loadout.
Master Levitation Early
Levitation is one of the most useful powers in the game. It increases mobility, helps with exploration, allows longer jumps, improves platforming, and provides excellent combat movement. Practice controlling the Levitation Ball as soon as you unlock it.
Explore Every Mental World Carefully
Every level is packed with hidden areas, optional dialogue, side paths, collectibles, and visual storytelling. Take your time instead of rushing toward objectives.
Collect Figments Constantly
Figments are the most common collectible, but they're also the easiest to miss. Always look behind objects, above platforms, beneath ledges, and inside optional rooms before leaving an area.
Don't Ignore Emotional Baggage
Each Emotional Baggage collectible requires finding its matching tag elsewhere in the level. Completing these collections rewards PSI Cards and contributes toward full completion.
Increase Your PSI Rank
Collect PSI Challenge Markers, PSI Cards, Nuggets of Wisdom, and complete optional activities to increase Raz's PSI Rank. Higher ranks unlock valuable upgrades that improve combat and exploration.
Buy Upgrades Regularly
Spend Psitanium at Otto-Matic early instead of hoarding it. Health upgrades, additional PSI resources, and improved psychic powers make every encounter easier.
Use Time Bubble Against Fast Enemies
Many difficult enemies become much easier once slowed. Time Bubble creates safe opportunities to attack, reposition, or recover during hectic fights.
Throw Objects With Telekinesis
Instead of relying only on melee attacks, use nearby objects as weapons. Explosive items, debris, and environmental objects often deal excellent damage when thrown back at enemies.
Use Clairvoyance Often
Clairvoyance doesn't just solve puzzles—it also reveals how NPCs perceive Raz. Besides being entertaining, it occasionally hints at secrets, dialogue, and story details.
Look Up
Many hidden collectibles are located above the player's normal field of view. Whenever entering a new room, rotate the camera upward before moving on.
Break Everything You Can
Boxes, containers, and destructible scenery frequently hide Psitanium and collectibles. Destroying them while exploring quickly builds resources for upgrades.
Revisit Older Areas
As Raz learns new psychic powers, previously inaccessible areas become reachable. Returning later often rewards you with missing collectibles, optional conversations, and hidden secrets.
Use Dodge Instead Of Tanking Damage
Combat is much easier when constantly moving. Dodging around enemies creates openings for melee attacks and psychic abilities while reducing incoming damage.
Listen To NPC Conversations
Psychonauts 2 contains some of the best dialogue in modern platformers. Talking to characters multiple times often unlocks additional jokes, lore, and world-building that many players miss.
Read The Journal
Raz's journal keeps track of collectibles, objectives, side content, and important information. Checking it regularly helps you avoid missing completion requirements.
Upgrade Your Favorite Powers
Every psychic power has unique upgrades. Focus on improving abilities you use most often instead of spreading upgrade points evenly across everything.
Enable Accessibility Features If Needed
Psychonauts 2 includes outstanding accessibility options, including invincibility mode, fall damage toggle, subtitle customization, larger text, and remappable controls. Use them freely to tailor the experience to your preferences.
Don't Rush The Story
One of Psychonauts 2's greatest strengths is its imaginative level design and emotional storytelling. Taking time to explore each mind fully makes the experience significantly more rewarding than simply following mission markers.
Aim For 100% Completion
Completing all collectibles, side objectives, scavenger hunts, and optional conversations reveals some of the game's best content. Even after finishing the story, the game encourages exploration with all abilities unlocked.
