Hello Neighbor Tips and Tricks

Hello Neighbor is much more than a horror game—it's a sandbox puzzle adventure where observation, experimentation, and stealth matter more than speed. Because the Neighbor's AI adapts to your behavior, there isn't always one perfect route through the house. These tips will help you survive longer, solve puzzles faster, and avoid many of the mistakes new players make.

Watch Before You Move

The biggest mistake beginners make is rushing inside the house. Spend a few minutes observing the Neighbor's patrol route. Learn where he walks, which rooms he visits most often, and where he spends the least amount of time before entering.

Don't Always Use The Front Door

Most players instinctively enter through the front entrance. Hello Neighbor is designed to reward creativity. Explore windows, rooftops, basements, balconies, ladders, and alternate entrances whenever possible.

Remember Where Everything Is

Many puzzles require returning to previously visited rooms. Mentally map the house as you explore. Knowing where keys, switches, generators, ladders, and important puzzle objects are located saves enormous amounts of time later.

Use Throwing To Your Advantage

Throwing objects isn't just for clearing inventory. Bottles, boxes, and other items can distract the Neighbor, activate switches, break windows, knock objects from shelves, or trigger physics-based puzzles from a safe distance.

Don't Carry Too Much

Inventory space is limited. Carry only the tools needed for your current objective. Keeping unnecessary items often forces you to drop something important when you discover a new puzzle piece.

Learn How The AI Adapts

Hello Neighbor's AI is designed to react to repeated behavior. If you constantly enter through the same window or hide inside the same closet, expect the Neighbor to begin guarding those locations or placing traps nearby.

Always Look Up

Some of the most important routes in Hello Neighbor are above ground level. Roofs, attics, balconies, pipes, and platforms often hide shortcuts or entire puzzle chains that are easy to miss if you only explore the ground floor.

Explore Every Room

Even rooms that appear empty may contain useful clues, hidden switches, keys, or environmental hints. Thorough exploration is often rewarded.

Listen Carefully

Audio cues provide valuable information. Footsteps, doors opening, and the Neighbor's movements can often warn you before you actually see him.

Don't Panic During A Chase

Being spotted doesn't always mean failure. Stay calm, keep moving, use obstacles to break line of sight, and escape through doors or windows whenever possible.

Use Boxes Creatively

Boxes are useful for much more than carrying items. They can create climbing platforms, reach higher ledges, or help solve vertical puzzles throughout the house.

Experiment Constantly

If something looks interactive, try it. Hello Neighbor rewards curiosity. Many puzzles have solutions that aren't immediately obvious, and experimentation is often the intended approach.

Watch For Environmental Clues

Lighting, unusual objects, paintings, furniture placement, and sounds often hint at hidden mechanisms or puzzle solutions.

Don't Ignore Basement Preparation

Before entering deeper parts of the house, ensure you've collected every necessary item. Returning repeatedly because you forgot a tool wastes valuable time and increases encounters with the Neighbor.

Practice Platforming

Several sections require careful jumping and climbing. Take your time rather than rushing difficult jumps, especially when moving across rooftops or narrow platforms.

Windows Are Your Friend

Windows serve multiple purposes. They can become escape routes, alternate entrances, shortcuts, or distractions depending on the situation.

Learn From Every Failure

Getting caught is part of the experience. Each capture teaches you something about patrol routes, AI behavior, puzzle progression, or safer approaches. Treat each attempt as gathering information rather than losing progress.

Use Stealth More Than Speed

Running should be reserved for emergencies. Walking quietly, crouching when necessary, and staying out of sight are generally more effective than sprinting through the house.

Solve One Puzzle At A Time

The house quickly becomes overwhelming if you try to complete multiple objectives simultaneously. Focus on one puzzle chain before moving to another.

Take Mental Notes

Unlike games that constantly mark objectives, Hello Neighbor expects players to remember clues. Paying attention to room layouts and puzzle interactions makes later progression much easier.

Enjoy The Mystery

Much of Hello Neighbor's charm comes from discovery. Avoid rushing through walkthroughs unless you're completely stuck. Solving puzzles yourself provides a much more satisfying experience.
