Hello Neighbor features simple but important controls centered around stealth, exploration, platforming, and puzzle-solving. You will spend most of your time sneaking through the Neighbor's house, collecting key items, manipulating objects, and avoiding detection. While the default controls are easy to learn, mastering movement and inventory management is essential for completing each act.

Gameplay Controls Explained
- Run lets you quickly escape the Neighbor but creates more noise and can make it harder to stop precisely.
- Interact is used for opening doors, flipping switches, climbing ladders, activating machinery, and picking up nearly every object in the game.
- Throw allows you to distract the Neighbor, break windows, activate distant switches, or drop unnecessary items.
- Inventory stores collected keys, tools, and puzzle items. Managing inventory space becomes increasingly important in later acts.
- Crouch lowers your profile, helping you hide behind furniture, crawl through vents, and avoid being spotted.
Important Gameplay Notes
Unlike many stealth games, Hello Neighbor features an adaptive AI that learns from your habits. Frequently using the same entrances or hiding spots may cause the Neighbor to place traps, cameras, or patrol those areas more often.
- The Neighbor becomes more aggressive the further you progress.
- Many puzzles require combining several items found throughout the house.
- Most objects can be picked up and used creatively.
- Windows, boxes, furniture, and household items can all become puzzle-solving tools.
- The game rewards experimentation more than following a single solution.
