Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Controls

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide uses a fast first-person control layout built around melee combat, ranged weapons, dodging, blocking, class abilities, tagging enemies, and managing tactical items. The default controller layout is easy to understand, but the game becomes much smoother once you learn how primary action, secondary action, dodge, weapon swapping, reload, and class abilities work together during hordes and elite encounters.

Additional Notes

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a co-op action shooter where four players fight through the hive city of Tertium. Controls can vary slightly depending on your selected controller layout, weapon type, class, and whether you are using melee, ranged, mission tools, or class-specific abilities.

  • Primary Action usually performs your main attack, such as swinging a melee weapon or firing a gun.
  • Secondary Action is commonly used for aiming, bracing, blocking, or alternate weapon handling.
  • Weapon Special Action depends on the equipped weapon and can trigger special attacks, revs, bashes, or unique functions.
  • Dodge / Jump is one of the most important defensive inputs, especially against specialists, melee elites, and boss attacks.
  • Tagging dangerous enemies is extremely important in co-op because it helps the whole squad track priority threats.
  • Class Abilities differ by class, so the same button can trigger very different effects depending on your operative.
  • Controller layouts can be changed from the Controller menu, and bindings can be adjusted if the default setup does not feel comfortable.
