Punch Club is a management and fighting strategy game, so its controls are very different from a traditional boxing game. You do not manually throw punches during a fight. Instead, you move around locations, select activities, manage your fighter, equip combat skills and adjust your strategy between rounds.
That makes the control scheme simple once you understand what the game expects from you. Most of your time is spent navigating menus and selecting objects rather than performing complicated button combinations.
Punch Club PlayStation Controls

| Select / Confirm / Interact | X |
| Cancel / Go Back | Circle |
| Additional menu action | Square or Triangle when prompted |
| Navigate additional interface panels | L1 / R1 when displayed |

Punch Club uses contextual button prompts throughout its interface. X handles most selections and interactions, while Circle normally returns to the previous screen.

The Switch version supports Joy Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. You can move your boxer directly with the Left Stick while exploring locations and use the face buttons to interact with people, equipment and menus.
Punch Club PC Controls
The original PC version was designed primarily around mouse interaction. Most actions can be completed simply by moving the cursor and clicking the object, activity or menu option you want.
| Action | PC Control |
|---|---|
| Select object or menu option | Left Mouse Button |
| Navigate interface | Mouse |
| Close or pause menu | Esc when available |
Controller support on PC can depend on the version and setup being used. Steam Input can also provide controller navigation for players who prefer a gamepad.
How Combat Controls Work in Punch Club
A common question from new players is how to punch, block or dodge manually. You cannot directly control individual attacks during fights.
Combat is automated according to your attributes, equipped skills and fighting style. Before a fight begins, you choose which abilities your boxer will use. At the end of a round you can adjust those abilities before the next round starts.
This means winning is about preparation rather than reflexes.
How to Change Skills During a Fight
When a round finishes, open your available skill slots and replace abilities if the current setup is not working.
Pay particular attention to your yellow energy bar. Expensive attacks can drain energy quickly, especially when your Strength becomes high. If your fighter constantly runs out of energy, replacing an expensive attack with a cheaper one can completely change the fight.
How Movement Works Around the City
Punch Club lets you travel between locations such as your home, work, the grocery store and training areas through the city map. Inside locations you can move toward interactive objects and select them to start an activity.
Activities include sleeping, eating, exercising, working and speaking with characters. Time continues to matter while you perform many of these actions, so controlling your schedule is just as important as controlling your boxer.
Do You Need Fast Button Inputs?
No. Punch Club does not require rapid button presses, complicated combinations or reaction based combat inputs. The console versions can be played without rapid presses or simultaneous button combinations.
This makes the game comfortable to play at a slower pace while you focus on training, money, food, energy and skill choices.
Can You Directly Control Fights?
No. Punch Club is not a traditional boxing game. Your boxer fights automatically once the round begins.
Your influence comes from deciding which skills are equipped, developing Strength, Agility and Stamina, unlocking fighting styles and changing your setup between rounds.
Punch Club Controls FAQ
What button punches in Punch Club?
There is no manual punch button. Attacks happen automatically according to the combat skills you equip.
Can you dodge manually?
No. Dodging is determined by your attributes, combat abilities and fighting style rather than a timed dodge input.
Can you change tactics during a fight?
Yes. You can adjust your equipped abilities between combat rounds, which is especially useful when your fighter is losing energy or struggling to hit an opponent.
Does Punch Club support a controller?
Console versions are designed for controllers. The Nintendo Switch version supports Joy Con and Pro Controller play, while PlayStation and Xbox editions use their respective gamepads.
Is Punch Club easier with a mouse or controller?
Both work well because most gameplay involves selecting activities and interface elements. PC players may find the mouse faster for menu navigation, while the console interface is comfortable with a controller.
