Zenless Zone Zero - Tips & Guide

Zenless Zone Zero Tips and Tricks Guide

The best Zenless Zone Zero tips and tricks are not about attacking faster. ZZZ rewards players who understand when to dodge, when to switch Agents and when to unload their strongest attacks. A well built squad also matters more than simply filling it with your three highest rarity characters.

This spoiler light beginner guide is updated around Version 3.2 and focuses on combat, team building, progression and resources that remain useful as you move deeper into New Eridu.

Learn the Attack Flash Instead of Button Mashing

Enemies telegraph dangerous attacks with visible flashes. Treat those signals as instructions. Your response can be a dodge or a well timed Agent switch for a Perfect Assist depending on the attack and your squad.

The sooner you start reacting deliberately, the less healing and restarting you will need. This becomes especially valuable against bosses whose long combos punish players who keep attacking through every animation.

Perfect Dodge Should End With a Counter

A Perfect Dodge is not merely defensive. Press Basic Attack immediately afterward and your Agent can perform a Dodge Counter.

Practise this until dodge and counter feel like one action. It gives you a reliable way to turn an enemy's attack into your own opening and is useful with almost every squad you build.

Switch Agents With a Purpose

Constantly cycling through all three Agents may look energetic, but good switching is about timing. A well timed switch can activate an Assist, continue a team rotation or bring your damage dealer into a valuable Stun window.

Learn what each squad member is supposed to contribute. If one Agent builds Daze efficiently and another deals exceptional damage to a Stunned target, their order should reflect that relationship.

Stun Enemies Before Spending Everything

Enemies accumulate Daze as you attack them. Fill the gauge and they become Stunned, exposing them to increased damage according to their Stun multiplier.

Against a durable target, avoid automatically spending every EX Special the instant it becomes available. If a Stun is about to happen, holding a major attack for a few seconds can produce much more value once the enemy is vulnerable.

Do Not Follow Old Ultimate Advice

Zenless Zone Zero's Ultimate system has changed significantly since launch. Decibels are now accumulated individually by Agents, so the squad is no longer fighting over a single shared Ultimate activation in the way described by many older guides.

Pay attention to each Agent's Decibel state and consider their individual rotation. This gives you considerably more freedom to combine powerful abilities during important combat windows.

Read an Agent's Skill Page Before Judging Them

ZZZ characters frequently hide important mechanics behind familiar inputs. Holding Basic Attack, using an EX Special at the right point in a combo or entering a unique state can completely alter how an Agent performs.

Spend a few minutes reading the actual skill descriptions when you obtain somebody new. A character can feel weak simply because you are using their buttons correctly but in the wrong order.

Build a Team Around Synergy, Not Rarity

Three S Rank Agents do not automatically make a coherent squad. Check each Agent's Core Skill and Additional Ability conditions, then look at their Attribute, Specialty and faction relationships.

Your team should also have a practical combat plan. Some squads focus on quickly stunning enemies before a burst window, while Anomaly focused teams care about building Attribute Anomaly and triggering their own interactions. Start with the mechanics your Agents actually support.

Do Not Forget Your Bangboo

Bangboo selection should complement the squad rather than being treated as a cosmetic extra. Different Bangboo have different attacks and activation requirements, and some become much more effective with particular Attributes, factions or team compositions.

Check the Bangboo skill conditions whenever you rebuild your squad. The companion that worked beautifully with your previous team may offer much less to the new one.

Level the Important Skills, Not Everything Equally

Resources disappear quickly when you try to maximise every skill on every Agent. Look at how a character actually deals damage or supports the team and prioritise the skills involved in that role.

A character who relies heavily on an EX Special or Ultimate may benefit more from those upgrades than from immediately raising every part of the kit at the same rate.

Core Skills Deserve Your Attention

Core Skill upgrades can be extremely important because they improve mechanics central to an Agent's identity. They also require their own progression materials, including resources obtained from higher level combat activities.

Do not spend all your farming time on Agent levels and forget the Core Skill screen. When a favourite character feels as though their progression has stalled, check whether an important Core upgrade is waiting.

Match W Engines to the Agent's Specialty

A W Engine's rarity is only part of the decision. Its passive effect and Specialty compatibility matter enormously.

Read what the engine actually improves before equipping it because the numbers look larger. A lower rarity option with a passive that supports the Agent's rotation can be more useful than an impressive engine whose important effect they cannot properly exploit.

Do Not Farm Drive Discs Too Aggressively at the Start

Drive Discs become a major part of character building, but early progression resources are often better spent on reliable upgrades such as Agent levels, W Engines, skills and ascensions.

Use workable Drive Discs while progressing, then become more selective once you can efficiently obtain higher quality pieces. Chasing perfect substats too early can consume a large amount of Battery Charge for very little lasting improvement.

Understand Drive Disc Set Bonuses

Drive Discs are not simply six independent stat pieces. Equipping enough discs from the same set activates useful set effects, which should match what the Agent is trying to accomplish.

Once you begin optimising builds, consider the main stat, set bonus and substats together. A theoretically perfect set name does not compensate for completely unsuitable stats on the pieces themselves.

Spend Battery Charge With a Goal

Battery Charge is used for progression activities that award materials, so avoid spending it randomly because the gauge happens to be full.

Decide what is currently blocking your main squad. If an Agent needs promotion materials, farm those. If the team has reached its level targets but important skills are behind, switch your attention to skill materials. Focused farming gets a usable squad online much faster.

Do Not Let Battery Charge Sit Full

Battery Charge regenerates over time. Once it reaches its normal capacity, you lose the benefit of further natural regeneration until some is spent.

You do not need to organise your day around the game, but spending a batch when convenient prevents progression energy from sitting unused for long periods.

Use the New Proxy Guide

The current game includes a New Proxy Guide designed to make early progression clearer. Its development guidance and manual tasks can provide Polychrome, Master Tapes, Drive Discs and useful upgrade materials.

Check it periodically instead of relying entirely on an old launch era progression guide. Zenless Zone Zero has received substantial progression changes since its original release, including adjustments intended to make early Agent development faster.

Claim Current New Player Rewards Before Spending Polychrome

Current versions provide significantly more onboarding support than the original launch build, including valuable rewards through the New Proxy Guide. Check every permanent beginner reward available to your account before committing premium currency to Signal Searches.

Knowing which Agents and W Engines you can obtain through existing rewards can completely change what your account actually needs from a banner.

Be Careful With Polychrome

Polychrome is one of your most flexible resources because it can be converted toward Signal Searches. Avoid spending it impulsively just because you have enough for another pull.

If you are saving for a particular limited Agent, check the current and upcoming Signal Search information first. Building around characters you genuinely intend to use is much easier than spreading resources across every new release.

Use Training to Learn New Agents

A difficult combat stage is a poor place to discover that you misunderstood a character's combo. Use the available training and tutorial features to test hold inputs, attack sequences, EX Specials and unique mechanics without pressure.

Pay particular attention to the Agent's natural stopping points. Knowing when an animation can safely transition into another action makes real combat feel far more controlled.

Watch the Enemy More Than Your Character

ZZZ is visually busy, especially once three Agents start chaining elaborate abilities together. Try not to stare at your own attack animations.

Keep the enemy in view and react to its movement and attack cues. Your combo becomes muscle memory surprisingly quickly, while the enemy is the part of the screen that tells you whether your next input should be another attack, a dodge or an Assist.

Build One Dependable Squad Before Building Everyone

The fastest way to make early progression frustrating is to divide every material among a large roster. Establish a dependable core team first and keep its Agents, W Engines and important skills reasonably developed.

Once that team can comfortably clear the content you are tackling, start investing in alternatives. Later modes give you good reasons to maintain multiple squads, but reaching that point with one strong foundation is much easier than arriving with ten half built Agents.
